Updated: 7th August 2024

Puffins are charming seabirds known for their distinctive appearance and vibrant colors. The most common species, the Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica), is recognizable by its black and white plumage, large, colorful beak, and orange webbed feet. Puffins belong to the genus Fratercula and typically measure about 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) in length, with a wingspan of 47-63 cm (18.5-25 inches). These birds are excellent swimmers and divers, using their wings to ‘fly’ underwater while hunting for fish. Puffins are often found in the North Atlantic, where they nest in colonies on coastal cliffs and islands.
